Dr. Yi-Hsuan Lu

Violin, Piano Teacher

Dr. Rae Lu is a caring and experienced violin and piano teacher dedicated to helping children build confidence, strong musical foundations, and a genuine love of music. She believes that every student learns differently, and she tailors her teaching to each child’s age, personality, learning style, and goals.

Dr. Lu holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and a Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music (MSM). Her doctoral research focused on effective practice strategies, performance confidence, and audition preparation—skills she brings into lessons in an age-appropriate and encouraging way.

As an active orchestral and chamber musician, Dr. Lu has performed in the United States and Taiwan, including with the New World Symphony and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. These experiences enrich her teaching with a strong focus on listening, musical expression, teamwork, and thoughtful preparation.

In lessons, Dr. Lu balances clear expectations with patience and encouragement. Beyond learning notes and technique, students learn how to practice effectively, work through challenges independently, and feel proud of their progress. She aims to make lessons both structured and enjoyable, so children can develop discipline without losing the joy and curiosity that make music meaningful.

Dr. Lu values open communication with parents and provides practical guidance for home practice, helping families understand how to support their child’s musical growth. Her goal is to create a positive, trustworthy environment where every student feels supported, challenged, and excited to learn.
